Why it was not popular like 24 years ago?
"Flower Season Rainy Season" was released in 1997 and starred by Li Chen, Yan Danchen, Zhang Chao, etc., The film was about a group of youth in rainy season. The film was adapted from the novel of the same name. During the time it was released, in 1997, the film was very popular and was nominated for the best children's film in the 18th Golden Rooster Film Awards.
The reason why the film was re-screened again in the cinema probably because of the famous actor Li Chen, who stared in the famous movie "The Battle at Lake Changjin". As we know, in 2021, the movie "The Battle at Lake Changjin" broke the box office and became the highest box office of Chinese history. The performance of Li Chen in "The Battle at Lake Changjin" was recognized by the audience. Many viewers said, Li Chen played a hardcore soldier, so it turned out to be so burning!
In 2021, "The Battle at Lake Changjin" has increased Li Chen's popularity a lot. However, the test of time on a film or television drama is very cruel and unfair. A movie like "Flower Season Rainy Season" 24 years ago was a very high-quality film. Because of the age of the movie, it still can't win audience's heart. The audiences will not buy ticket even if there is a well-known actor like Li Chen presents in the movie.
Li Chen's film "Flower Season Rainy Season" re-screened again in the cinema but it was completely rushed to the street. The film was re-screened on December 1, for 10 days. The number of viewers was only 40 people, and the box office was only US$12 (77 RMB). It's not enough for electricity bill. If they really wanted to borrow the popularity of "The Battle at Lake Changjin" to gain attention for "Flower Season Rainy Season" from the audience, then it was a wrong idea.
